VINTAGE CONDITIONS:
Growing conditions for vintage 2022 began with a mild spring & flowering period which helped product an even set in our pinot Grigio vines. With a la nina weather pattern prevailing over the growing season, Spring, Summer and Autumn temperatures were mild, however, we were fortunate to experience little rainfall up to and including the harvest period. The mild but dry harvest period with cool nights meant that our Pinot Grigio vines produced wines with excellent flavour, depth and freshness which we were able to capture and bring into the winery.
WINEMAKING/VITICULTURE:
This wine is made 100% natural (or wild) fermentation. These Pinot Grigio grapes and indigenous yeast that transformed them into wine, created layers of flavour and richness. After fermentation, the wine was left on yeast lees for three months and tired every week to imbue a complexity and creaminess to the wine and richness to the palate.
TERROIR/SITE:
Situated on the banks of the Murray River, the vineyard produces grapes perfect for fresh and varietal wines. The Pinot Grigio grapes are grown on a range of sandy soils over limestone. Carefully controlled irrigation of these individual sites promotes well – balanced canopies so that eh fruit ripens in dappled light, allowing optimal fruit flavour to develop.
TASTING COMMENTS :
Colour: Pale straw.
Aromas: A heady mixture of baked apple, cinnamon, and poached pear with hints of lychee.
Palate: Medium bodied with flavours of poached pear, quince, and honeydew melons. Lively and fresh in a drinkable way.
