Pllana began with a belief: that good wine doesn't need to shout. It just needs to speak honestly.

Founded by Filipa Watts, Pllana was born from a deep-rooted connection to South Australia, its soils, its growers, its slow, grounded way of life. Filipa grew up surrounded by stories of resilience, generosity, and craft. Her vision was to bottle not just exceptional South Australian wine, but the spirit of the place and people behind it. Pllana is a tribute to legacy and local character and a reminder that boutique doesn’t mean inaccessible.

We don’t own a vineyard — and that’s intentional. Instead, we’ve built a portfolio of wines made in collaboration with growers and winemakers across South Australia, from the slopes of Watervale to the deep red soils of the Barossa. These relationships allow us to remain agile, select the best grapes from the best regions, and stay grounded in quality above all else.

Each wine in our range is chosen for its integrity. Its ability to tell a story of varietal purity, site, and season. From the precise tension of our Watervale Riesling to the soft generosity of our Barossa Grenache, to the plush structure of our Shiraz. Every bottle is a product of care, craft, and curatorial intent. And every release is made in limited batches, so what’s here today might not be here tomorrow. We like it that way.

The Label: Above and Below the Line

If you’ve held a bottle of Pllana, you’ve seen the symbol. A simple line that runs horizontally across every label. It’s more than a design flourish. It represents the soil line. Above it, the vine. Below it, the roots.

This line is our tribute to what sustains great wine: the land, the legacy, and the people who make it possible. For us, every label is a nod to what lies beneath, the patience, labour, and love that never make it to the tasting notes. You’ll also notice each wine is named after someone. Hans, Clementine, Liam — family, chosen family, people we raise a glass too often.

A Colour Story Rooted in Place

Pllana’s colour palette wasn’t chosen by trend. It was drawn from the land itself.

The label’s deep clay reds and soft limestone neutrals reflect the terrain of South Australia. From the iron-rich soils of the Barossa to the sun-washed chalk of the Clare Valley. Our lighter tones evoke the crisp clarity of a Riesling morning harvest, while the darker tones channel the dusky velvet of a Shiraz poured at sunset.

We designed the labels to feel grounded but elegant. Quiet confidence over loud branding. The colours help our wines feel as at home on a linen-covered restaurant table as they do on a timber kitchen bench, shared between friends.

Because that’s where we see Pllana: in real homes, with real meals, enjoyed without overthinking.
